I'd like to introduce you all to my favourite charity...

It's called  KIVA.

It's a micro-lending site that really makes a difference to people in  developing nations by lending them small loans. The loans are managed  through local lending organisations who not only manage the loan, but,  where needed and appropriate also give training in management skills and  business skills to the borrower.

Also, the risk is spread because the lenders pool together, for example,  if someone wants a loan of $250, they would get 10 x $25 loans from 10  different lenders. This is paid back over a fairly short time.

At the end of the pay-back period, you have the option of withdrawing  your cash, turning it around and lending it to someone else, or donating  it to Kiva management to run things.

I've started an AtheistOnlineForum Lending group, you can see it HERE.

If you decide to join KIVA and make this HUGE difference in people's  lives, please join our group, and also, please feel free to put the KIVA  logo in your signature to proudly show your colours.

I have absolutely no ties with this company, other than that I have made  a few small loans. I have done quite a bit of reading, I've read  everything on the site I could, and also Googled "Kiva" and read a lot  of articles about it.

BY ALL MEANS - DO YOUR OWN DUE DILLIGENCE!!!

If you DO find anything denegratory about it, please let me know. I  would HATE to be promoting anything to our members if it wasn't totally  above board, and at this time, to the best of my research, this is.

Please don't feel you HAVE to join, but please consider it.

I try to make a loan every month. I figure I won't really miss $25 in a month. It just means one less DVD for my collection!

You can also give Kiva Gift certificates, which may be a great idea for  Christmas presents for the people who have everything! A few years ago I gave  my cousin a goat (through World Vision) which was presented to an  African Family. He was thrilled. Since then each year he's received a Kiva Gift Voucher, so he can go online and choose whom he wants to gift it to!

Anyway, please consider it, if you can, and please spread the word!

goddess...

PS: You can get an image for your signature in the IMAGE GALLERY  or you can save the one out of my signature to your computer then  upload it to your own signature.  (Please note, kiva image may not be  more than 100x50px)

Goddess, I clicked 'Here' on the line "I've started an AtheistOnlineForum Lending group, you can see it HERE." and got a 404 error.  Help!
Humanity without religion is like a serial killer without a chainsaw.
